Cars Birthday Party

We recently celebrated my son's 3rd birthday. He's obsessed with all things Cars, so it was a no-brainer what I should do for his birthday party!

My handsome little 3 year old

I had a pretty small budget for this party, so I wanted to make the most of what I had. A lot of what I got for this party came from the dollar store. That place is a goldmine!

From the dollar store:
- Tablecloth
- Popcorn tubs
- Large glass tumblers
- Cake plate
- Streamers

I got the black and white striped straws from Hey Yo-Yo on Etsy. The red cups with lids were from Target. I made little flags for the tops of each cupcake with the names of each kid on them.

I used my Cricut to make the banner.

For the cake, I made a poke cake. I used a German chocolate cake mix with Oreo pudding and crushed Oreos for the gravel-looking top.

I loved it and I think my baby boy did, too!!

Who doesn't love Scrabble?

I know I do. And I've been loving the Scrabble tile decorations that I've seen floating around bloggyland.

My mother-in-law and mom have been/will be visiting and I wanted to make them a simple diaper bag for their visit. Something they could throw a cup and diapers in and take the kids out while they're here.

I came up with these Simple Scrabble bags!

The bags are cute, so hopefully they'll want to use them after they leave for home, too :) I used the first letter of their first names for the bags.

Wanna make one? Here we go!

Fabrics:
Handles (2): 3.5 inches x 28 inches
Outer (2): 13 inches x 13 inches
Inner (2): 13 inches x 12 inches

I used THIS tutorial on how to paint the Scrabble tile onto the fabric.

In terms of sewing, here we go...

1.
I started with the handles. I ironed the edges into the center and then folded it in half again and ironed. Then I sewed down the open side. Do this for both handle pieces.

2.
Use the tutorial to paint your fabric & allow time for it to dry. Once it's completely dry, fold over the top 1/2 inch and then another 1/2 inch. Sew down. Do this for both outer pieces.

3.
Pin the sides and bottoms together and sew together. Make sure you don't sew that top together!

4.
So the same thing for the inner portions. Once your inner portions are put together, slip it into the outer portion and pin the tops together. Make sure the wrong sides are facing each other. Don't sew the tops together yet!

5.
Slid the handles in between the outer and inner portions. You'll want to measure so that they're the same distance apart. Pin them in place. NOW you can sew the tops together.

And there ya have it! Super cute Simple Scrabble bags!

Hello again!

Right now I'm sitting in a cabin in the woods. It's magical. Seriously, so peaceful. After this last week, I needed a getaway.  My husband's uncle and aunt paid for the whole cabin for us. I'm so grateful for wonderful family.
